SHIRT SALE - 50% OFF - FEBRUARY
2010 ONLY
On December 6th 1980, Sunil Gavaskar captained the Indian cricket
team in their first World Series Match at the Melbourne Cricket
Ground (MCG) which was a tri series between India, Australia
and New Zealand.
Greg
Chappell won the toss and put India into bat. Dennis Lillee
stormed in and dismissed Gavaskar for 4 and Srinivasan for 6.
After the early set back India rebuilt their innings with a
fine 64 runs Sandeep Patil. Amazingly assisted by Australian
fast bowling hero Dennis Lillee who dropped Patil 3 times off
the bowling of Geoff Lawson. (Thanks Dennis). India went on
to get 208.
Australia started well, losing their first wicket for 60, that of Kim Hughes
bowled by Patil. 2 runs later Dyson was run out by a direct hit from Binny.
To cut a long story short, India bundled Australia out for 146, winning by
66 runs.
Australia went on to make the final against New Zealand to win the series
with the help of the Chappells dirty underarm tactics.
More importantly India took away the prize for the best looking team.
